  1. After getting tired of my grills at the lake place being messed with or stolen I bought a Grilla Grill Silverbac AT to carry back and forth from the house to the lake cabin. I'm actually pretty impressed with this grill. It's not a huge grill but it is made with a lot of stainless steel and has a insulated bottom barrel. With the optional upper half rack extension the grate space increases to 877 sq inches. I have done about 4 cooks on it both grilling and low and slow smoking and I really like it. They also have a jerky rack that I used to do six racks of baby backs on. The AT cart makes it really easy to pull up on to my utility trailer. The new ones like I bought have a WiFi controller but has two different modes, one is PID mode where it keeps a constant temp and a more traditional mode they call pro mode that has the usual swings in temps that most pellet smokers have. There is also a pause button that you can use to open the lid during a cook to check on your food that wont give a big spike in temp.
  2. After several cooks on the 1300 I am very impressed with it. I like the Super Smoke mode. I did two pork butts last weekend for the Super Bowl and they both came out great with a good smoke flavor and were moist and juicy. I created a recipe that went Super Smoke for the first 3 hours at 200 degrees then had it bump up to 275 for the remainder of the cook. I estimate that I only used about 8.5 pounds of pellets for the 10.5 hour cook. I am really liking the 1300.

  4. I know its been a while since you asked but I would recommend either the Ironwood or the Timberline. If you live in a colder climate I would say the Timberline with the added double wall insulation would be the better of the two.
  5. Got the new hot rod installed and it works like a champ. I had to replace the entire unit from the control panel to the fire pot. Traeger did diagnostics connecting to my Timberline online and said everything was good. It was a $28 fix.
  6. Got it picked up on Sunday. It was a lot easier than I thought. With the elevator getting it down from the second floor and rolled out to the truck was no problem. Since the lid had already been taken off we put it in the back seat of the truck on some moving blankets along with the firebox. It made the 4 hour trip home with no problems. Lifting the base into the back of the truck was no problem with two people. Got it put together yesterday. Only hard part was getting the lid back attached to the hinge. We had to loosen up the bolts on the side of the hinge to get the bolts thru the mounts. All in all really happy with my $250 Big Joe.
  7. Just got an email that they finally shipped the hot rod. I was hoping it would be here before Christmas but looks like it won't be.
  8. Picking it up went fine, got it home and figured out what was wrong with it. The guy I bought it from had switched out the hot rod but instead of getting the DC version that goes on the second gen 1300 he got the AC version. So after talking it over with Traeger service I ordered a DC hot rod for it and that should fix it. Hopefully the new DC hot rod will be here in a few days and fingers crossed that is all that is wrong with it and the wrong hot rod didn't corrupt the controller. I still got a heck of deal even if I have to change out the controller but fingers crossed all I have to do is change out the hot rod. On a side note I have to replace the hopper lid screws, it appears they backed out somewhere between New Braunfels and home, but the hopper lid was still there.
  9. I stumbled into a deal on a Traeger Timberline 1300 yesterday on Facebook Marketplace. Can't beat a price of $600 for a 1300 less than a year old. Going to drive down south a couple of hours and pick it up this morning.
  10. Here is the plan I think will work. Since the lid is already seperated from the hinge, I take it down to the truck seperate of the base. I then take two ratchet straps and cross them over the base and thru the nest to keep the base on the nest. I found out there is a elevator in the building, so I then roll the strapped Big Joe to the elevator and then roll into a trailer I can rent from Tractor Supply that has the drop down loading tailgate. I then run straps thru the nest to the sides of the trailer to secure it to the trailer. Possibly run one strap over the top of the base to keep any top heavy from shifting the base off the nest even though it will be strapped down. What do ya'll thing of that plan?
  11. Ok, so that's why it's looking like that. The price is damn good but I have to find some helping taking it down a flight of stairs. I guess if the top isn't connected to hinge I could take the top off and then figure a way to get the bottom shell down the stairs and into the back of my truck.
  12. I found a used Big Joe 1 for sale and it appears either the hinge is messed up or they split the top from the base to move it. My question is since it appears I will have to move it downstairs taking the lid off from the base will I need to do something with the hinge first like zip ties or something? Also does it look as though the hinge is shot?
  13. Masterbuilt will be coming out with a larger version in the spring according to a guy that owns a grill store not far from me. The larger size will be about twice the size of this one. I decided to wait till the larger version comes out before getting one. I was told the larger version will retail for about $800.
  14. I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these. I just happen to have a $500 Home Depot gift card that I got last Christmas.
  15. I'm seriously thinking of adding a second Classic instead of adding the Big Joe. Since I have a Classic and a Jr adding a second Classic would probably give me the needed space.
  16. John, I was using Lumberjack Ultimate blend pellets. I spoke to a big Yoder dealer near me down in Austin yesterday and he thinks it was a controller issue for the year the Yoder was made. The dealer is going to lend me one of his demo units with the new wifi controller for me to try out, he stated that I shouldn't have more than 1 to 1 & 1/2 pounds of pellet consumption at 225 with the temps that we normally have in Central Texas. I know that he is trying to make a sale but I am curious to see if it was just bad software / hardware on the controller that I had.
  17. I know there are a few on here that have the Traeger 1300 Timberline and I was wondering what kind of pellet consumption ya'll are seeing with them. I sold my Yoder YS 640 due to it blowing through 3 pounds plus an hour set on 225. If I did a brisket on it I would spend more on pellets than I did on the brisket. I know on the Traeger Pro 34 that I had before the Yoder my pellet consumption was right around a pound per hour at 225. I am interested in the Timberline 1300 and the Ironwood 885 since they are insulated. I might look at the Pro 780 as well.
  18. I sold my Traeger Pro 34 a few months ago and had started looking at higher end pellet smokers to add to my Kamado Joe. I think I looked at every higher end pellet from the Traeger 1300 to Pitts & Spitts to Yoder to Blazn and Mak. I was really torn between the Yoder and the P&S and Yoder. Sunday morning I was checking email and Facebook when a Facebook Market post showed a Yoder YS640 for sale for $1000. I messaged the owner and he had just posted it. After talking for a few minutes i learned that it was less than a year old and had no problems but he was selling to go bigger in a stick burner. I decided it was a good deal and told him I wanted to buy it. I drove to north Dallas (about a 4 hours drive) and was blown away when I got there. Not only did I buy the Yoder he also had the cover, two piece diffuser, a brand new stainless steel shop vac for the ash, grill grates, and to top it off 1320 pounds of Lumberjack pellets! I got everything back home and actually have a sore back from unloading 33 forty pound bags of pellets. I fired it up on Monday it runs like a champ. The Yoder had also never been registered so I have the full warranty as well. Long story short I found a unicorn.
  19. Well after being able to see both the Yoder ys640 with a comp cart and the Pitts and Spitts Mav 1250 I am leaning toward the Pitts and Spitts. The larger cooking area of the Pitts and Spitts along with the bigger hopper were the main things I liked. The Yoder on the comp cart was actually kinda low and I didn't care for the idea of having to bend over that much to put meat on or off the smoker. I may flip back to the Yoder by the time I buy in a few months but I really liked the Pitts & Spitts.
  20. I looked at the Timberline 1300 online. There are some things I read that I really like and I had things not so much. I guess most could be answered by being able to see one up close (well that and the ridiculous front shelf...lol). My local Traeger dealer says he isn't going to get a Timberline in anytime soon due to a waiting list on dealers. I think I have focused on the Spitts and Pitts instead of the Yoder. It does look like I am going to spend at least $2000 to upgrade so there is a lot to think through. I have been reading up on the Savannah Stoker and like what I have read.
  21. I have had my Traeger Pro 34 for about a year now and have made some great meals on it, but I am thinking about getting something else. My main thing that drives me nuts about the Traeger is the temp on the controller started off being really close to actual temp but over time has gotten worse. I can have as much as 50 degree difference in what the controller is showing to what my Thermoworks Smoke or Maverick thermometers indicate. I am trying to decide to get the Savannah Stoker controller to see if that fixes it or just put that $200 toward a new unit like a Yoder ys640 or a Pitts and Spitts 1250. I also looked at the Rec Tec but it appears to me to be just a little better version of my Pro 34 in the build quality. I would appreciate any and all input on these units I am looking at. Thanks.

  23. I looked at Traeger and Yoder but I decided on the Rec Tec. My opinion I think the Rec Tec offers the best bang for your buck.
  24. I have found a dealer about 100 miles from me and will try to get down there in a week or so to check them out. I have been doing some reading online and I was wondering about pellet consumption. I have read that the YS640 uses a lot of pellets. I called All Things BBQ and the guy I talked to said they use about 2 pounds of pellets per hour. That is a lot of fuel costs to factor in. Today I am doing a brisket on my KJ and I am going on 19 + hours and it is still going on the lump I started with. If i get pellets for around $.75 per pound then I would have burned over $35 worth of pellets all ready.
