Never understood the idea of tomahawk steaks
All that extra bone is weight you end up paying for that adds nothing to the final product
    Steaks look good though

When you say "I filled the standard KJ ash basket with charcoal", how full are we talking?
IME, i find what a lot of people think of as "full" is barely half full in a Kamado
Also, what brand of charcoal are you using

No, I spent 16 weeks digging through the analytics of this and many other forums, cross referencing post topics with the number of negative reviews and Up/Down votes
I then complied the data into a spread sheet and created a few pie charts (I love pie charts) to show the difference between what the community considered to be reasonable warranty issues and unreasonable issues
After reviewing the data I passed it on to my colleagues at the University of useless information found on BBQ Forums (The Kamado Division) to be peer reviewed to ensure I hadn’t missed something
It was harrowing work but I think it was well worth the time it took to get a better understanding of how realistic people’s expectations are when it comes to manufacturing defects on what is essentially 2 flower pots joined together with a fancy hinge

    Hope that clears it up

I fill my BJ up til the charcoal is just below the heat deflectors
With the SloRoller in place, you should be able to fill your Classic right up
Theres no downside to adding more charcoal (if you have the space) so i'd fill'er up all the way

I really like the Kingsford "Infused" briquettes
I use the Hickory and Applewood in my Pit Barrel almost exclusivly

COVID has kicked KJs CS Department in the nuts this year
Go back 12months and everyone had nothing but good things to say about KJ CS.

    Also,
If i'm being honest, the likelihood of you needing to speak to someone from customer service is much lower if you buy the KJ compared to the Grilla...

Thats an odd move on PKs part
In all the videos i've seen (including the Official PK one) I got the impression the "Flip Kit" was just the stand and an extra set of grates.
I would also prefer the PKGO with a single set of Grates and a Lid so it could take over from my GA

That having been said, I'd wager the majority of the cost in the Flip Kit would be the lid so a intermediate version would probably not be much cheaper than the full version

I preordered the new iteration of the PKGO and I am super excited about it (more for a post-distanced future). I plan to quickly weld up a way to get some kind of diffuser plate in there. If I can make that work the Akorn Jr will probably be largely retired from portable duty. While the Akorn Jr can run ultralong low and slow cooks, it just was not the way I used it traveling, and I think the PKGO has the potential to do everything I did do better.

Back in late 2018 we were in Edinburgh for Christmas and found a painted rock in the Castle there.
It was one of the highlights of our day and the missus was beyond tickled
We've also found one in my local hardware store and it never fails to brighten my day that something that's kind of silly has taken off in such a way and brings so much joy to people

If all you care about is the easiest and simplest to use smoker, go the Traeger
A KJ is a good option for most tasks, but the Traeger (or any Pellet Grill) is as close to "set and forget" as you can go (without adding extra gadgets like pit controllers ect).
Both have thier downsides, but if you're not interested in a pit that can Grill, Roast, Smoke and double as a Pizza Oven, you're better off with a Traeger

Your temp creep issues are a result of getting your grill up to temp too fast
Bring your temp up slower and allow it to settle and stabilize and you'll find it stays where you set it

My temp controller has lived in its box since 3 weeks after i got it
I consider them a waste of money when it comes to Kamado cooking
Everyone keeps talking about what great "piece of mind" they are but personally, I feel like they're more of a crutch than anything for a lot of people
