  1. @Sanensafe May I ask how much you picked up the Classic Joe for? I'm still on the lookout for a Kamado.
  2. Welcome! I've heard good things about them. There's a Facebook group for them and a chap on there makes steel deflectors (half moon too), along with pizza steels for them. I've got a pizza steel, they are great quality if your ceramic ones break.
  3. @ndg_2000 Interesting, it's £599 on the site, that does include delivery though. Yeah, both La Hacienda and Aldi must know something has gone wrong somewhere, it's good that they are both being helpful in the situation rather than fobbing everyone off, Aldi in particular being very flexible.
  4. Little update... I've pushed them to £75 off. Covering the crack with ceramic paint will not affect warranty. They said it's all in my notes so it's all in writing. I can also use it for 60 days with a no-quibble refund if I have a change of mind, that's standard apparently, so anyone with damaged ones can test it out. I said I'll let them know next week if I'll keep it. @ndg_2000 The Louisiana is £599, plus a membership fee (£15 i think), so it's pretty much double.
  5. Yeah I've read that saying on here too! Buy once, cry once. That's why I went cheap first to see if I even like Kamado cooking, but that hasn't paid off so well. It's just a big jump to go from £350 to £869 to then not like it (I'm doubtful that is the case, though). I'd like to think I'd be using it in the winters too when possible so not just a summer toy. Regarding the Aldi damage, I'd probably look to cover it up with some high heat ceramic coating if I kept it, but I'd first need to ask Aldi if that would avoid warranty, because that would be an easy way to void the warranty for them.
  6. @&roid Absolutely, I'd be buying once that can come ASAP, both the ones I mention say they can come the next day of ordering! Just had this from Aldi: They just told me I can test the Kamado, and if there are no issues, I can continue using it with a partial refund of £50. If there is an issue because of it within those 3 years, they will refund the rest to the full amount. Just to add another curve ball!
  7. @&roid Yeah I think so, unless they can offer me substantially more than £50 cash back. Aldi have sold out so that is a no go. The Goose looks great, £555 delivered. I've also just seen a KJ classic I with the D&C system and updated Firebox for £869 delivered, so for ~£300 more you get the lifetime KJ warranty, over the 1 year with the Goose. Now I don't know!
  8. Here's a close up of the damage to mine. Red flags screaming at me here so it's going back. Be curious to know anyone's experienced opinion this kind of damage. Looks like a bodged job that was attempted to be covered up.
  9. And here is my new Kamado, damaged. Sigh!
  10. @TheMerlin486 Does that sway you back to it or are you sticking with Aldi? Mines due in a couple hours. That was a pic I posted in from someone in the Wild Goose FB group Was from last year the post if I remember right!
  11. Following up, it was indeed just a sales tactic, price didn't change!
  12. @TheMerlin486 I am a little concerned. Mine is coming tomorrow, had the call from the courier today. However, the Goose's price saving ends today so I'm tempted to order it and just cancel it if the Aldi one is fine. The Goose is £555 delivered today (£25 for delivery but you get £20 off by signing up to the newsletter). Not sure if it'll go back up to its £599 price or £999 price, or if it's just a sales tactic to encourage buying. At £999 it's a no-brainier to go KJ, so I can't see that happening.
  13. @TheMerlin486 Thanks for posting those links. I ordered mine on the 3rd, no news on delivery yet. I’m quite surprised how many issue people are having, if mine has anything I’d consider sending it back and getting the Goose instead, rather than a replacement.

@Berty look forward to it! My Aldi one has been dispatched just now, no delivery times yet though. Hoping I don’t come to regret not going WG!

Yeah I did think that to be honest. It was just the 1 year warranty that put me off a little, perhaps I shouldn’t have worried too much about it (I’m quite clumsy, mix that with ceramic and something is going to break!), but was just thinking spending that much more I’d go the extra for the KJ and it’s warranty. When do you get it? I’d be curious of your thoughts! You have me re-thinking.

@keeperovdeflame Absolutely! Hoping it comes before next weekend so I can fire it up then. @Scott Roberts Haha yes, how else are you going to smoke and grill at the same time?!

So here goes, after a lot of deliberation... I bought the Aldi one for £353.94 delivered. Just 2-10 working days to wait now! Cheap enough that if it lasts it's 3 yr warranty, I'll be happy! Comes with some nice extras too that help with the whole experience. In case it helps anyone looking these were my thoughts: Reasons why I did not choose the KJ Jr: I very nearly pulled the trigger on this one, just because it's a KJ, but at £100 more for a smaller grill it didn't make a lot of sense, especially being my first Kamado. I think I'd of regretted not going bigger for the budget. Reasons why I did not choose the Akorn Jr: I've seen people on here picking them up for $35-$100. At £250 in the UK without a heat deflector, it didn't make sense value wise, though I liked the idea of it being portable. Maybe someone can ship me one at the super cheap price! Reasons why I did not choose the Wild Goose: Simply put, 1 year warrant put me off. If I'm spending nearly £600, I'd rather spend the extra on a KJ Classic and know in years to come, it'll be covered. And I didn't do that because I didn't want to spend that much being a first timer. Maybe next time! I'm sure the Aldi one will be great looking at reviews, let's cook!

I emailed them and they just said it’s a 1 year warranty, and there’s no option to extend. They recommend Kamado Joe for a longer warranty!

@&roid I hadn't but the warranty wouldn't carry over to a new owner so I'd be probably best off with the Wild Goose. I'm also looking at the Akorn Jr, can get it for ~£280 with a deflector. Gives me a taster of the Kamado lifestyle for cheap.

Thanks everyone! Still deciding! The Wild Goose one only has a 1 year warranty which is a concern of mine, especially when paying £550. It does look like a copy of the Classic Joe II, as it has it's own "divide and conquer" system included, but at half the price. The Aldi one is still tempting me just because it's £350, and has a 3 year warranty. It just doesn't come with with all the goodies the Wild Goose one does, but a great entry into Kamado cooking at that price. I don't know if I need the "divide and conquer" system really, but not being able to have it makes me wonder if I would use it if I did. And then I keep coming back to the Kamado Joe Jr, despite it being small, just because it's a Kamado Joe. As I'm new to Kamado cooking, I didn't really want to spend the money on the bigger ones. But then I'd worry about if I should've gone bigger. I'll get one, eventually. Catch-22!
  21. @TheMerlin486 I've been looking at both the Kamado's mentioned here, the Wild Goose 18, and the Aldi one. The Aldi one, according to their website, is a 16" grill, not a 21", so whilst it is cheaper, it's also smaller. What is drawing me to the Wild Goose one is that it'd fit some of the KJ accessories (plus it comes with lots too). But having said that, the price of Aldi's is almost too good to pass on.

@ndg_2000 Thanks, that one from Greenhouse looks like it's got a lot of things included too, I'll ask them about warranty. Aldi's warranty is only 3 year. Thanks everyone for the welcome!

@ndg_2000 — Thanks, I have one about 50 mile away from me so it could be worth a look. Also, I've found that Aldi are selling one from the 28th April for £350, 16" size grill (according to last year reviews): https://www.aldi.co.uk/garden-shop/kamado-bbq. Not too much more space than the Joe Jr, but with the extension rack included it should be easily enough, likewise with the Joe Jr, though the extension is an extra £30 for that. Could be a good purchase to get started, just hard to know what the quality will be like, plus Aldi only offer a max 5 year warranty.
  24. Hello! New here from the UK and looking to buy a Kamado after experiencing some amazing tasting food at a BBQ from BGE! I've read a lot on here, but still not sure which one to get yet. It probably would've been an Akorn, but they seem expensive in the UK (£249 for the Jr, looks like in the US you get them for about £100!). Makes me think is it worth spending the extra for a KJ Jr (£400), especially if I need parts / accessories etc. as they don't seem easily available to get here for the Akorn. I'd mainly be cooking for 1-3. I'm assuming, even if I go for a Jr I can still cater more, but just in batches? I don't know enough about Kamado grilling to know for sure. I'd like to have a go at smoking, and pizza too. I did look at Broil King Keg's (non-ceramic appealed in case of breakage), but we're stepping up to £700-800 range, which a lot given it'll be my first experience. Hoping to get one before the summer starts in the UK, any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
