  1. Well I'm intrigued... Believe I'll be giving this a shot this weekend.
  2. Absolutely cannot believe how good that ended up being! As I struggled to rub down with olive oil and my rub I seriously thought it looked gross and was going to taste awful... I obviously was pleasantly surprised when I took my first bite. I believe this will be a "go to" in the future. Thank you everyone! Love this site, you guys never let me down!
  3. Thanks a lot folks! Getting ready to start the prep right now, I'll be sure to post an after pic.
  4. I've decided to do a spatchcock chicken for the first time today and I'm wondering if I'm in over my head. Never cooked a full bird of any kind before so I figured a cheap chicken would be a good place to start. Anyone know of any good instructional videos on how to prepare/cook a chicken in this fashion. Or even a good recipe with pictures would be helpful too. Thanks!
  5. Trying to cook in the nasty Missouri weather this evening, without having water drip on my food, I decided to rig up a rain cap for my Akorn. It's just an old pear can that I had sitting in the garage waiting to be repurposed..seems to be working so far. Anyone else try something like this?
  6. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/oklahoma-joes-smoked-brisket-flat-recipe.html Nice, thank you sir!
  7. Curious as to where you found an actual Oklahoma Joe's recipe?? By far my favorite BBQ joint! (even with the new name) I use their rubs and sauce on pretty much everything I smoke, but I've never been able to find an actual recipe..
  8. I'd like to try the snacks at that meeting! Welcome aboard!
  9. CC, I don't think it could have been said any better. While waiting for my first semester of law school to begin, I too have been substituting, I've seen everything that you've mentioned and probably worse. It's almost unbelievable what these kids can get away with now, and this is coming from a guy who graduated high school only a few years ago (2006) himself. What's worse is the kids don't care because they know they don't have to. I'll tell you about an experience I had a few days ago while subbing a high school math class. As I looked around the room only two or three of the 20+ students
  10. I do the same, only I also slide the lower vent all the way open. So it has the fan, as well as the natural intake from the vent. I've found this to work much faster since the 6.5 cfm fan can only do so much.
  11. That thing is beautiful!! As far as the charcoal, has anyone in the states figured out a way to order it by the box rather than by the pallet? While I'm sure it's worth the money, I don't think the wife would be too happy when she pulled in the garage and saw a pallet of charcoal in her parking spot.
  12. Dora? Both pizzas look great, and I bet they tasted even better. Round is overrated..
  13. I don't know that there's really any advantage, just make for an easy reference point. As in "last time a did ribs i had my top vent around two, so I know i should start somewhere around there this time and proceed accordingly." I mean i guess you could just remember the space that was open there before, but hey if the numbers are there why not use them? I don't consider this a selling point nor would I pass up a grill that didn't have them, but in the same sense I wouldn't not buy a grill because they are there.
  14. I second this! I love how people can come here and ask a question without having to worry about long time users berating them for not searching every possible thread that might have one post about their question. Rather they will simply answer the same question that they've probably answered many times before and wish them luck on their future endeavors and encourage them to not be afraid to ask anything else. Everyone is a newbie at some point, no reason to torture them for it and turn them off the site completely. Sorry that kind of turned into a rant I've been a part of many other forums
