  2. I left my KJ out in the back yard with a cover over the last NE winter. No problem at all. I probably would have cooked on it but after cleaning snow off a 100 foot driveway, I can't get motivated to clean off a 500 SF patio so unless the snow all melts off which it did not do much of last year I just cook indoors. My advice if you want to cook in the winter is to heat the Kamado up slowly and make sure you keep the cover on when not using to keep moisture off the ceramics.
  3. I just looked up Keystone BBQ and it has pictures with an address on the wall of 4034 E Newport Road. When you look up that address, it's someone's house so just bear in mind this is not a Brick & Mortar store you are dealing with. Probably why they want you to deal with KJ direct.
  4. It is basically the end cut off the full rack of ribs to get a St. Louis style rack of ribs. I use to buy these & cut them up to make steam ribs in black bean & garlic sauce. The bone I would use for pork stock. I am sure you can just put these on the smoker if you are into spare rib tips but I find the ends are a bit tougher than the meat between the bones.
  5. Just get a $20 lodge 10-1/4" skillet. It should fit in the KJ.

  8. Not for nothing, but many years ago I made a post on a headphone forum regarding a new headphone which was having issues with wood cups. The wood cups were made in a humid part of the world and shipped around the world. Obviously the grade of wood available in that country & the change in humidity cause a lot of Q&A issues. My suggestion was to go the a polymer cup to move his business forward instead of wasting all his resources responding to cracked wood cups. 3 months later the product line went to all polymer cups & his business is now selling headphones anywhere from a few $300 to $2,000. At the risk of cutting myself out of a commission again,... I am going to suggest that KJ at least look at anodizing their aluminum products as the finish is more durable.
  9. Are you talking about the holes in the bottom plate or the sides of the fire box? If you are talking about the holes in the bottom plate I would just take the plate out & get a charcoal basket. The basket will function better in the long run & allow you to to get the air flow for a burn out. Put the steel plate in to burn the grease off that also.
  10. I do the same and if the stuff is really baked on I used the KJ charcoal ash tool to lightly scrape the grates, the deflectors & the soap stone. Works fine as far as I am concerned.

  13. Yes people do strange things all the time & there's no need to disparage them just because we don't understand why they do what they do.
  14. Watch out for wood and resin handles if using the 14" wok on the 18" KJ, the heat will flow up the sides of the wok. I would worry about burning or melting the handles. I am using a cast iron wok on the KJ Classic II and have to wear gloves when stirring. Controlling wok temps are also a challenge since you can't turn down a flame when using charcoal.

  17. Always easier to blame someone else rather than to admit that the owner didn't check the condition of their own equipment especially if the equipment is used often. I'm sure the manual fine prints says what needs to be looked at periodically. Way to go!!!! Oh yeah sorry to hear about the damage to the BGE dome. She should call BGE to see what a replacement cost. Maybe they'll help with the replacement.

  21. I would be curious to see what happens to the bottom of the metal body once the charcoal and ceramic firebox concentrates the heat & allows a higher temp due to the heat being kept in the firebox.
