  1. We decided to go check it out this year and see what we are getting into. I know someone that has competed in this one before and if he’s in I’m going to see if I can tag along to get some pointers.
  2. I've heard this, weird to cook something you wouldn't eat.
  3. I’m absolutely going to give it my best shot, just tempering expectations first time out.
  4. I'm in need of any tips and advice, not looking to win it just dipping my toes in. One issue I have is the only smokers I have is a large BGE and series 5 Pit Boss pellet smoker and neither are real feasible to take there. The Pit Boss probably wouldn't be a big issue but I would probably have to take a generator and it doesn't do everything I need it to do.
  5. I bought a 22" Blackstone on Christmas Eve and I'm really liking it, wish I would have bought one sooner.

  7. I haven't posted a video online but it's starting to rust where the ash pan and body meet, it's not bad and is still being used. It's about 7 years old at this point and has always been under a covered porch with no cover on it and like I said I live in a extremely humid climate.
  8. I only have experience with the Akon and it served me well for years before I finally upgraded to a BGE and passed the Akorn on to my Dad. He's still using but it's finally starting to rust a little but we live in a extremely humid climate living 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. As for the Akorn buy with confidence in my opinion.
  9. I just finished a bag of Marabu and I'm glad it's gone, won't buy again. Pros: burns a long time Cons: hard to start sparks bad when starting take a LONG time to get up to temp I'll stick with Fogo black bag and KJ Big Block, I do want to try Jealous Devil in the near future.

  16. I did some testing with whole chickens this weekend and figured out what I'm going to do with the turkey. I did 2 brined (bird bath brine) chickens one rubbed Honey Bacon BBQ and the other with Cattleman's Ranchero and one not brined but injected with creole butter and rubbed with Honey Bacon BBQ and the brined chickens were a lot more moist and flavorful. I will be using Meat Church Bird Bath brine and Meat Church Honey Bacon BBQ rub, it was the winner 3 among the people that sampled it. Side note: The Meat Church Bird Bath brine is basically a salty Honey Hog if you're interested in trying it.
  17. Should I use a sweet rub like Honey Hog to balance out the salt from brining or use whatever?
  18. We have fried a turkey for years but this year a smoked turkey was requested.
  19. I've been nominated to do a smoked turkey for Thanksgiving and I'm thinking about using Meat Church Bird Bath brine and spackcock method. Thoughts??? Any and all input is greatly appreciated!
