  1. So with 6 kids in sports this past season, I had literally no time to grill or smoke much food. I've been away from this site for a while but hope to get back on more consistently. Last time I was here there was a forum for beer making. Is it gone?
  2. I have cooked a full brisket on the top grate. Many times I have had one pork butt on top and two on the bottom rack...no problems. When I cook one butt by itself, I always cook it on top near the end of the cook and have a foil pan of baked beans on the bottom grate so it catches all the meat drippings. heavenly.
  3. Absolutely. I take mine camping and tailgating. Very safe.
  4. I've got my first batch of all-grain brew fermenting in this as we speak. Very cool and affordable! https://www.thefastrack.ca/main/fastferment
  5. Welcome from up I-35 in Denton
  6. That's a good idea with the magnetic tape.
  7. This is an awesome thread. I too am looking to expand my grilling to more healthy options.
  8. this cat is probably just yawning...
  9. I've replaced my gasket once already from doing several high temp cooks. They are super easy to replace and I had no issues calling BKK and ordering the replacement. I got 2 for down the road.
  10. My neighbor did ribs and kababobs...I did wings and poppers. No pics...the food was devoured.
  11. All Kegs can use the trailer hitch...back to the original Bubba Keg. The only difference from the first one to now is the tip vent has some notches to allow for better air control and the color.
  12. I finally took some pictures of the trailer hitch adapter and set-up. This is one of the main reasons I purchased the Big Steel Keg in 2011 over any ceramic kamados. I wanted to be able to safely and efficiently take it anywhere. My first though was to be able to take it to BBQ cook-offs but I honestly don't have the time for that right now. I do take it tailgating a lot and here are a couple of pics of our set-up. After the first game this year, my tailgate neighbor went and ordered his Broil King Keg the next day. Now, our group has 2 sweet kegs doing some amazing cooking. Thanks for looking.
  13. Went to Home Depot and picked up this vent and it works perfect for a rain hat on the Keg. I can still see the numbers on the top vent to make sure I'm dialed in. I'm not sure it will stand up to wind, but will for sure keep the rain out during a cook. By luck, it was the right color... Untitled by Cookingfor8, on Flickr
  14. I also use the Pitmaster IQ110. So easy...it's the man's crockpot.
  15. I take my Big Steel Keg tailgating with no issues using the trailer hitch. I cook for a family of 8...hence the name, and no space issues. Check craigslist to see if any are for sale. Bubba keg, big steel keg, and now broil king keg.
  16. Pretty genius as far as I'm concerned. There really isn't any money left in the retail music business with all the digital outlets. They give a free record (which I personally like) to 500 million people. For the millions of worldwide U2 fans out there, this is a great surprise and they are willing to check it out...since it's FREE. Yes, Apple paid them like 30 million for this...but they will launch a worldwide tour and make hundreds of millions more. It's brilliant marketing and, as a fan, I'm thankful for their music. It defined me at an early age as a musician and helped me find my own sound. I'm always grateful for the U2 boys.
  17. I used to stress out about the difference in temps when I first started using my kamado. Over time, I used my Maverick less and less...now, none at all. It's been no issue if my dome temp is off by a little. For long cooks, I hook up my pitmaster 110 and the temps are locked in. I just check the meat temp with a quick read digital thermometer ever so often. It's been nice with the less is more approach for me.
