  1. congrats on the purchase! your addictionwill only get worse from here on out. great choice on the Innis and Gunn btw! Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks man. Indeed!! Lavergne Western Beef, one of the best place around and the prices are great (it's their building and land, no rent there) and of course, that's my home town. Worth driving down with a cooler to stock up. They have really nice beef ribs. This site is full of inspiration and happy I inspired you! Thanks for the props. Have either of you tried meats from Slipacoffs Premium Meats? The only reason that I haven't tried Slipacoffs is that it's only a delivery service which adds to the price. I like to see my meat before I buy. Dude, I get ya on that one, I'm the same way and the reason I hesitate to order. Thanks man. Indeed!! Likewise delivery in the Ottawa is free apparently for orders above 100$ I believe.

  4. Their fresh meat prices seem pretty reasonable, website has pretty decent reviews. Of course that could be skewed. Just wanted to know if anyone has tried them out, if so, what did you order, and how were the results.? Brisket 6-7kg packer for 75$, not too shabby.
  5. Marc! Mechante belle pointe de poitrine!! I remember I had to do some research to find the french translation of Brisket... butchers here don't even know what that means lol. BTW can you tell me what the price was you paid for that packer? I think i'll take the plunge this year and try out my first brisket with burned ends.
  6. I was being cheap the last time it fell to 42$... I should have picked up a bag. Live and learn I guess, it's on my watch list too.
  7. Not sure if you guys get Basques at your local Costcos, but that same 8kg Bag sold for $12.xx at our Costcos in Quebec. Not sure about now, season's just about to start. I suspect they're gonna start to put them on the floor soon. At what price though remains to be seen. However, I have to mention that Basques is based in Quebec, so that alone probably accounts for the cheaper price we see. By comparison an 8kg bag of Maple Leaf lump is ~$19 locally.
  8. Slowly moving out east! Lowes bought over Rona, so hopefully we'll be seeing some KJ lump in Quebec. I already saw some in a few Montreal specialty stores, but at "specialty" prices. If anyone has seen any in Mtl other than urban bonfire, please let me know! Btw what is the weight of those red bags? 1$ / lb?
  9. I would buy it exclusively as well. I don't think they sell many bags @ $99 or anywhere close to that price. Have you every tried Kebroak? It sits at $40 all the time. I'm tempted to buy a bag & see what it's like. Glenn I have a bag not happy - lots of small pieces - might just be the bag i got Must be just the odd bag, I've gone through about 6 bags of quebracho, all had huge chunks. One did have a bit more dust at the bottom than I would consider a normal mount. I think Mikeincalgary was talking about Kebroak when he mentioned the small pieces. Not quebracho
  10. 40lb bag. But too late...It's back up to $89! Glenn Me = I didn't heed to my own advice to buy @ 41.67... Held out for the price I originally paid ($40.02). Alas, looks like I'll be holding out even longer.
  11. Quebracho is slowly goin down! Hopefully soon gonna hit that 40$ magic mark
  12. I'm like you.. look almost daily for more Quebracho @ 40$ price tag from Amazon.ca. It's been a good 5-6 months maybe since I've seen it at that price. It dropped to 63$ now, but still no go for me at that price. However, Kebroak is still 40$ at amazon.ca for 40lbs. A great alternative to Quebracho.
  13. Simply stunning.! The wait 2 well worth the reward
  14. This will be my first winter with the Primo XL.. and I can't wait to fill the cold crisp air with smoldering sugar maple. The 2 most common I see here in Montreal are Maple Leaf and Basques sometimes RO blue bag (but I've never tried). Brings back fond memories, so cold outside you can't smell anything except fireplaces burning in the distance. so far I've burned thru a couple bags of maple leaf, couple bags of basques, almost done my Quebracho bag, and have an unopened bag of Kebroak. I've noticed the mapleleaf and basques lump impart a smokier flavour to meats than the hardwoods do (quebracho). I'm starting to separate my cooks now... lighter meats (fish, poultry etc.) get the quebracho treatment with wood chunks for smoke. The low and slows (butts and the like) get the maple leaf/basques burn and of course more wood chunks for more smoke. The couple of bags that I went thru were medium small, with not many big chunks, and certainly NONE like the behemoth trunks I saw in my quebracho bag. They burn hot and fast, I can cook a nice pizza with either quebracho or basques/maple leaf. Pizza is in for such a short time, the smoke doesn't have time to penetrate. I can also reverse sear a good steak with either of the lumps i've tried. Trick is air flow. I'll be getting a couple bags from Costco before they stop selling for the season.
