  1. I have one on my brand spankin new BJ III If I didnt have one I doubt I would pay $250 for one. I have only done one long smoke with it (pork butt yesterday) seems to work fine but I think just the standard deflector plates work fine as well. Doing a big brisket cook next weekend so that will be a good test. I would rather take that money and buy the RotoJoe or whatever its called
  2. yeah the starters are cool. I have them for my wood stove at my cabin
  3. I just dig a hole in the middle of the lump and stick my propane torch in it for about 30 seconds. Been doing it that way for years
  4. Yes I uploaded that and a pic of the serial number from the back of the manual Thanks
  5. Thanks John i contacted the dealer, the model number is on the invoice but I was not sure if that was for the pit or the CGS grill expander they give out for free with purchase The model number is bj24rhci-a I did the registration process just now. After reading some posts about it I was not sure how it would go but within a few minutes I got a confirmation email saying its been registered and I am all set. Thanks
  6. Hey gang. Trying to register my Big Joe III Its asking for the model number. I do not see that anywhere on their site Where do I find this? Its not on my receipt either Thanks
  7. I see you use the parchment paper trick Once I discovered that its all I use for pizza makes things much easier
  8. Ok thanks. After reading your answer I took a close look at your video on the system. I think you are right, I probably have the grates in the wrong direction, I did not pay attention to those 2 tabs on the divide and conquer rack. Looks like they lock the grates in place. Makes sense. I will look when I get home Thanks
  9. I feel kinda dumb asking this Big Joe III third cook. Did kabobs last night, I had it setup for direct grilling and had the grates in the top position. After the cook, I took the wire brush to the grates. Without much pressure, one fell in to the coals. Then the other one. I was just brushing them like I would normally do to any grates. But of course these are different being split. Is this normal? Do I have to be that careful that they dont fall in? Or do I have the grates in wrong? I dont know how else they could go I would hate this to happen with a load of food on them. Maybe I just need to get used to it and be more careful? Thanks
  10. Looks terrible I would not use permatex Looks up Rutland products. They make supplies for wood stoves etc. They have a gasket cement specially designed for this type of application. They make all kinds of things. I use them for my stickburner.
  11. Well its together and everything is flawless, I have to say. After reading about other's experiences lately I was a bit leery unpacking and setting everything up. Also in the pic is my CGS expander grate I think it will come in real handy. It got it free with the purchase of the pit from The Ceramic Grill Store I just did a quick chicken for my first cook on Saturday. Temps are a piece of cake to control, but I am coming off an Akorn that I had for years so the learning curve is short. I also did burgers and pork and beans yesterday I made the worst burgers of my life! No fault of the pit, do not try the recipe for bbq cheddar burgers and come in the manual!!! They tasted fine but the burgers did not hold together, too much moisture in the mix. I was making them for some family I invited over, luckily I reserved some plain burger and put them on rescuing the cook. Thats what I get for trying out a new recipe on someone LOL
  12. I got mine last week and put it together on Saturday. I am happy to report everything is perfect on it. As far as this paint peeling issue I am not buying it. You can put header paint on an exhaust header on a car engine, it will last. My Akorn has been heated up real real hot over the years Paint is still fine on it
  13. Ok here are a few from yesterday after work! Actually I took a few of the hinge to show my buddy who is a huge BGE fan. He was drooling over the hinge and the wire mesh gasket heh heh heh Everything looks to be in perfect shape so far
  14. Geez. I just got mine yesterday its still in the box. I know I would not be happy seeing all of this. That glaze job does not look good!!!
  15. Well it showed up!! All I did was unbox the cart since the box didnt look too healthy but everything is fine!!! And I did take off the lid and the top styrofoam and take a peek at it. Step one complete!!!
  16. Back again a week later Been told its on the truck Been told it will be delivered about 2pm I hope so I am leaving work early!
  17. Sorry I was away Actually its coming tomorrow. I will update As far as when I ordered, it was June 17th I ordered it from the Ceramic Grill store in Texas $2049 shipped to my door, and they include the CGS grill expander they make and sell for free Regards
  18. Well... It didnt show! The gal from the trucking company called me yesterday to setup the appointment. She said its in the terminal which is local to me. She said they want to deliver it tomorrow (today) from 9-5. I told her I would not be home until 2. She said ok no problem the driver will call you when he is on the way she would put a note on the shipper. So after not hearing from him today I decided to check the tracking info, why I did not do that yesterday who knows. It scheduled to be delivered 8/18 between 1pm and 5pm. What? So I am calling tomorrow. I am on a early shift all week and get home at 2 pm so this week is perfect. Also I am sure they dont need the thing sitting in their terminal a whole week Maybe they can hurry this along. Geez

  23. Hi guys been a long time since I have posted anything. Upgrading my Akorn to a KJ Big Joe 3 The roadshow is coming to the Costco near me end of the month. Does anyone know what they typically price these at? Do they even offer it? I am ready to buy from the Ceramic Grill Store, I do not see any prices close to this anywhere else, I doubt Costco will but I would like to get an idea if waiting is worth it or not Thanks edit- I do now see another thread on it down the page, maybe my questions have been answered there but I would still like any input if you have any
  24. personally I would not use that who knows what in the dye used to color the stone? might be safe, might not I use a stone designed to cook on, about $13
  25. Carbon Del Sur from RD. 18 lbs $8.99 much denser than RO, burns longer. No flooring or furniture scraps, real pieces of wood. Medium sized, works real well in the Akorn http://carbondelsur.co/
