I agree with the others. I have not had to do any of the mods on my Akorn. I had a couple of small leaks at first but after fluffing the gasket and a couple of cooks everything is fine and I do not see any leaks at all.

Don't ever fix what doesn't need fixing........

I do not think he is actually worried about a crack. I think he is trying his best to convince himself to go as cheap as possible. As most of us have found out sometimes cheaper actually means spending a lot more in the long run.

Either buy the Akorn or the Vision. At the price difference and the warranty I would get the Vision. I wish I had seen It at the sale price before buying my Akorn but I am happy with the Akorn.

I assembled mine out of the back end of my truck as I had no help around. It was an easy assemble.
I would not hesitate to use mine on a wood deck with a mat in place. I have seen no sparks or embers try to escape my Akorn yet.
I have found extended warranties to be pretty much a waste of money.

You must have a serious air leak somewhere if it was still going the next day as stated. And how long was the few minutes that you walked off for to return to an "inferno"?

My Akorn extinguishes itself totally within 2 hours off shutting it down.

I got my TTT in the mail today. I mounted mine by simply taking a length of picture framing wire and twisting it tightly around the bottom of the top vent and securing it by twisting the ends together. Then I took another piece and twisted it around my top vent handle and then around the top of the TTT and secured it by twisting it back to itself tightly at the handle. I then took another piece of wire and slipped it under the wire on the bottom on the other side and ran it around the top of the TTT also and secured it by twisting it tightly to itself also. It stayed in place while I ran a test fire and opened and closed the grill several times. I ran the grill from 250 up to 450 with no problems holding temps well. I extinguished the grill by simply closing the vents as usual with the TTT still in place.

I will try and get some pictures later.

I bought an Akorn the other day from Walmart. Been on this site looking for a while now and decided to join. Thanks for the instructions for a slow n low and volcane fire start. It works well.

My 1st slow cook... a tad overcooked but waiting for my thermometer to arrive.
