  1. Hi everyone, Don here from Florida, and I just picked up a Kamado Joe at our local Costco roadshow about a week ago. I’m here to tell you it’s taken my cooking up into the stratosphere. I never realized before that what I was doing would work just fine with the correct equipment. Gone are the days of my smoking pork butt hyper-care, only to be greeted with less than stellar results. There were some issues with the QC of the control tower prohibiting us from using our new grill, however, to KJ own accord they overnighted me a replacement. But that aside everything we’ve made on this grill has been the best iteration of its respective dish thus far. I also found using Fogo charcoal has help as well, granted it’s only been a week but we’ve probably cooked 10-15 meals already, that Fogo is super clean and flavorful. Thanks to John S. for all the videos on YT, it help with the decision to go with KJ over the other brands. No looking back!
  2. Hi all! I am a Brit living over here in the states for 3 years and have just picked up an Akorn on offer at Target - $230 for the new model! I was about to go all in on a BGE when the conscience got the better of me; looking at my 8 month pregnant wife and 3 year old son - so glad I read the forums here and did a bit of shopping around to find the deal on the Akorn. I already have the smokin' stone and have tried a couple of cooks. Still on the learning curve but getting so much great info from this site and a couple of books I bought. Am very interested to build my own remote thermometer and maybe even an auto PID controller in the future - once i learn how to master the charcoal use and temperature control manually that is! Just want to say thank you for all the great posts on this site -it has made the conversion to Kamado cooking a very enjoyable one. SandyB
  3. Determined Kamado acquisition a choice...DD narrowed it down, comment here & elsewhere brought hands-on experiential input. Real considerations settled themselves out. Currently leaning toward an Akorn, as portability is a must and it weighs-in at sub-100pounds and is not subject to chipping or outright cracking apart as it's 22gauge double wall steel, with a porcelain internal layer baked-on! Glad to see a community of experienced Kamado types exists & such a range of experience is shared! A.Z.
  4. Hi all! I recently acquired an Akorn Char Griller. I'm new to smoking and can't wait to learn from all of you veterans of smoking. I've already tried a couple recipes that I've found on here and just want to say you all have been a great help so far! JT
  5. Excited to finally have a Kamodo style grill (Akorn). Got it all put together and am ready to get my feet wet.
