Well.........Teenage T-Rex cooked grilled cheese sammiches for his girlfriend the other day. Figured that I'd increase his capabilities by introducing a George Foreman grill. He was game. We took it on it's maiden voyage today for lunch. Figured I'd make a batch of my smash burgers and run it through it's paces. He was in the midst of each step. Small countertop...I manned the cutting board......he manned the grill. Usual suspects gathered.... He devoured the first thing to come off this grill.....to slices of bacon. More followed...... Ankle-biters emerged as soon as bacon started being cooked...... The smash burgers were too large for the Foreman.......made a mess of them. The thing cooks onions and bacon like a champ, though !!!!!!!!
After backpacking with my daughters for the past few days and eating freeze dried dinners the past 2 nights I was hell bent on some real food when we got home. Fired up the grill for some smash burgers as an early dinner Then gave my Joetisserie its maiden voyage with some chicken wings. They turned out great! It wouldn't let me post the video of the spin
The Jerri test kitchen has completed its search for our go-to smash burger. I've had one for breakfast almost every day for a week: different hamburger, different bun, different cheese, bigger, flatter, smaller, plumper, etc. Internet searches, forum searches, yada yada. This testing has been done on my gas stove, not the kamado, but now I will take my results to the kamado next time we have burgers. Anyway, I made my own buns, a white whole wheat that is firm yet soft. For this final hamburger, I saw some boneless short ribs that looked good so had the butcher grind those up. Added a bit of our steak marinade and left in baggie overnight. All good. Today was the day for the final, last breakfast burger. After I flipped it, I put on the cheddar American cheese and covered it to melt, turned off the pan, and used only ketchup and mustard as condiments. Done! I'm done with this experiment! I'm happy with the loose grind and the way it cooked up. Might add some ground up flap steak to this next time as I have some on hand, but that's it.
