How does the decking respond to heat? Akorns run cooler than ceramic Kamados, but this is long term exposure if you do low-n-slow. A little air space may be all you need.

I think it will be fine. I am cutting my home slightly larger to give more space. If over time it does not handle the heat then I plan on removing the decking from the end with the grill and laying in pavers or something similar. The composite decking seems to handle the sun well and the outside of these grills do not get that hot

Nice table. I've always wanted to build one for my Akorn, but decided I just didn't have a good place for it right now. A simple straightforward design like these is what I'll be looking at.

its sitting on the factory shelf brackets, i cut 2 notches in a 2x4 and dropped it down in them. It has a small amount of play that I may deal with some day, but it doesnt bother me right now.

Hows it holding up hanging from the shelf brackets?

Very sharp. Like the lighting a lot. I am working on one for mine. Still planning right now. Will probably do it now that it’s cooling down here in KY. The squat caveman cooking method is for the birds. I want that baby elevated! Thinking of a nice heavy gloss finish on the cedar top for mine. Wood was milled on my grandfathers land back in the day.

plan to make the base a little more simple and paint it solid with a clear coat. Probably black. I would like to have a nice over head for it as well but we will see. No major rush there. Was thinking of pricing some waterproof overhead canvas and making a canopy for it. It would be nice to have outdoor cooks when weather was less hospitable.
