Addertooth
Peruse the Akorn sub-forum. Be sure to read all the "stickies". Unless you are a lucky sort, read the articles on how to improve the seal on the Akorn. They are a great Kamado, and you should get a lot of enjoyment out of it. dsarcher
Welcome. Have an Akorn myself and love it. You have found the right place. Great place to learn and be inspired. Now go out and stock up on some lump charcoal, wood chunks and let the good times roll. Stevo57

Stevo57
Thanks everyone for the words of welcome! I thought the side cart was pretty much a no brainer at $30 more than the stand-alone model. Having a few other smokers in the herd, you can never have enough workspace around the unit for prep or stage empty platters. I just loaded up on hardwood, and have plenty of apple, hickory, and pecan chunks ready to go. Should my first go be something easy like pork tenderloins or chicken? Or should I jump right in to the deep end with ribs and brisket? I am so psyched about the versatility of this unit! Being able to sear, grill, bake, and smoke (economically) within the same "egg" is genius at work
David5
Hello all. Waiting for my Bayou Classic. Should arrive tomorrow. Found a lot of useful information here and looking forward to grilling. BTW Lowes just lowered their price to $550 in Cypress, TX.

daxamundo
The pinned topic on starting a fire for low and slow, in the Akorn sub-forum, was really helpful for me. I just bought my Akorn from Lowe's this past weekend, and I was able to smoke a pork shoulder and a couple of racks of pork spare ribs. The content here is great!
