Temp variations among the 3 KK grates

Any of you proud KK owners know what the temp difference is on a low n slow cook at the lower, main and upper grate levels?  So if you are trying to keep the main grate at 250, where do the others fall around there?

And if you don't know, I bet one of you WILL know by a week from today (I've heard you guys like to use your cookers!) B)

Thanks,

g

I'm not sure of the individual grates, but when my guru is running 275° on the main, the dome reads about 290°, which is about upper grate level. I would guess that the lower grate would be within 5°.

Until I get a grate thermometer, I don’t know what the temp variation between the three grates would be. But at low and slow temps, the variation is bound to be small enough that it probably won’t matter. The one time I cooked ribs on both the main and upper grates, there wasn’t a discernible difference in how the ribs turned out.

What matters more is hitting your desired internal temperature. Or rib bendability, as the case may be.

+1 ^^ on the 5698k post.

This is especially true using a full heat defector and having heat soaked the KK.  Everyone I know heat soaks the KK prior to putting on a cook.  And by heat soaking, I mean hours at the cook temp.  The whole KK radiates heat back to the cook at about a constant temp, +/- 5F or so.
