Raks Naan Bread

Recommended Posts

Had some people ask about Indian food lately so I've adapted my naan bread recipe for Kamado cooking.  I hope you get to try it, it is really good and very easy!

Yields 5 Naan

  • 3 Cups Unbleached All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Tsp Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 Tsp Rapid Rise Yeast
  • 3/4 Cup Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Yogurt
  • Melted Butter or Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Optional: Garlic, Onion, Coriander, Sesame Seed
  1. Mix together the dry ingredients (Flour, Sugar, Salt, Baking Powder, and Yeast)
  2. Mix together the wet ingredients (Yogurt and Milk)
  3. Warm Yogurt and Milk mixture until tepid (warm to the touch but not hot)
  4. Mix wet ingredients into dry and knead together (by hand or using your Kitchen Aid with the dough hook)
  5. Let the dough come together and form completely.  The consistentcy is slightly soft and wet but it shouldn't stick to your fingers
  6. Very lightly, rub a little oil to stop it from sticking to the container while rising
  7. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm spot.  It takes approximately 2 hours to double in size
  8. Separate into 5 (or however many you like) separate pieces and roll into balls
  9. Form naan shape by stretching out dough with your lightly oiled fingertips (similar to how you form a pizza pie)
  10. Once formed, lightly brush with oil
  11. Prick the formed Naan with a fork all over
  12. Spread garlic (or onion or coriander or nothing) dealers choice!
  13. Set up Kamado the same way you would for pizza
  14. Place Naan on pizza stone at around 600-650F
  15. Cook until top and bottom are nicely browned
  16. You can brush with melted butter if you like
  17. Enjoy :)

This really is an easy recipe but I've made the recipe as complete as possible!  Once you try it, it is very very easy and delicious!

Let dough double in size

Once doubled, divide into 5 equal parts and shape with oiled finger tips or rolling pin

Brush with a little EVOO and prick with a fork

Sprinkle with chopped garlic or your topping of choice

Set up Kamado as you would for Pizza and get to 600-650F

Bake until golden brown

Brush with a little melted butter if desired.  ENJOY :)

I'll give this a go... thanks.

Don't suppose you have a KJ recipe for Turkish Flatbread (Bazlama)?
