Need a rust proof Kamado

Recommended Posts

Need a rust proof Kamado for use in Florida. With their extreme humidity, I don't want anything that has the potential to rust in a few years. I went to a Costco KJ roadshow today with the intention to possibly buy one but after looking them over good, all the metal parts are steel. There is a five year warranty on the metal parts but after that, I'm concerned that with the extreme humidity in Florida, I could end up with rusty bands, cart etc.

Does anyone know of an all ceramic and stainless Kamado cooker brand besides the Vision that would fill my needs and not break the bank ?

Komodo Kamado all hardware SS, but it might break your bank depending on what your bank is made out of - LOL

Doesn't KJ sell a model with SS bands.

Yes CK they do, if I remember correctly it is the standalone models. OP you might want to check out BBQ GUYS or Garden Gates websites.

KJ Rep at the Roadshow told me today they no longer make the SS version. Maybe that one was an in stock unit. Thanks for the heads up on bbq guys. I checked with them and it seems as though Grill Dome does make a ceramic/stainless steel version as well as Caliber but those are quite pricey as are Komodo

So far I've never noticed anyone complaining about their KJ's rusting even though many here leave them out in the elements all year long. You might be overly concerned about something that's not really an issue especially since the parts are powder-coated vs. simply painted.

If you're really worried about rust getting through the powder coated metal parts, use high heat silicone spray, good up to 1500F.
