Kamado Joe vs Big Green Egg Comparison Video

Thought it was a very decent & fair video. The guys didn't put in just opinions, but showed what they were talking about. A very non-nonsense approach. Was surprised that they didn't mention the new firebox, which I think is probably the biggest improvement.

Divide & conquer didn't get much attention there either. They showed and mentioned it, but didn't really get into it's many benefits.

For one, many times overlooked, it's much easier to clean as it fits the sink better and is lighter to handle. Same goes with the heat deflectors. Especially on the XL sizes.

Also am glad I chose KJ, that BGE assembly is something I wouldn't like to do.. Sure, it's not hard but I'm pretty sure the fit is better out of factory. Same as in the video, my lid is perfectly alligned. I wouldn't like the kind of misalignment BGE is shown with.

Also was glad they said food is the same. Had they found any differences, it would have killed the videos creditability totally.

They should've made an effort to call it the Kamado Joe.  They got a little annoying when they were just calling it Kamado.

Kamado Joe is becoming a household name.  Millions of people around the world are aware of what a Kamado Joe is.    We're maybe another year or two away from KJ having the same brand equity as BGE.

^ As a KJ owner I'd like that and being able to express I've been a pioneer in bbq by believing in KJ. It'd be like Coke and Pepsi!

Reckon it all comes down to how mature the local market is. In US bge is the household name, which is hard to overcome. In other parts of the world bbq enthusiasts know bge and others have no clue - in those markets the task seems little easier, but at the same time the markets are getting floodeed with different cheaper kamados.

So by no means is it an easy or simple task for Bobby & KJ. That being said, if they stick with the excellent customer service and keep innovating they have a good chance.

Here's hoping red is the new green!

Ok, forget that I am a Joe owner for a moment and leaving out the calibration of the thermometer- I love this quote, "The Joe was better with fit, finish and features... we give a slight edge to the Joe" LOL

I just watched it as well and thought the choice of "slight" was odd giving the way that they balanced the scores.

I found the video informative but they should've used the ribs to bribe Johnny for some tips on making the video compelling and interesting

The guy who ended up with the Egg must be suffering from Grill Envy?  I mean - he has to be.....right?

I know I'd be pretty pissed off in his shoes. Regardless of how they give "slight" advantage to KJ, he must know he made the wrong choice.

In his shoes I'd be borderline craiglisting the bge to get a KJ. He just got the rug pulled from under his feet. Think about it, you have a brilliant & shiny new kamado, which you're very proud of. Then someone comes along with another kamado that's both better and cheaper. It ruins your happy illusion totally... that's borderline home invasion situation [emoji23]

Feel sorry for the guy. We make bad decisions, but the guy seems like a normal relaxed "dude" and now he got the wet rag in his face [emoji851]

Don't know how you figured that the Joe is cheaper, the new classic is now 1199.00 which is right at the price of the green egg after you add the accessories

I got the previous model.. plus in this part of the world bge is pretty damn expensive. XL sizes (equal Big Joe) egg with same accessories as Joe is borderline 3k usd. Big Joe around 2k and standalone a bit more.

We got vat at 24%, customs to pay etc etc

Prices checked. Big Joe, normal price today is 2043 usd.

Big Green Egg XL with same accessories, in -20% discount today is 2678usd. Without discount the BGE package would be massive 3347usd.

So, I would say KJ in here is heck of a lot cheaper with a 635usd price difference, against the discounted price. Story in the US might differ significantly..

No, not actually. I cook on a BGE, and find it a wonderful grill. Holds temp exceptionally well, has a great warranty /customer service, history, and the Egg community. Does that mean the KJ is a bad grill choice, of course not.  Is the KJ a good grill? Of course it is, but stating that doesn't preclude that every other grill is something to feel bad about owning. I like the Egg over the KJ for one simple fact. Dome Tapper, the BGE will accommodate a taller rack assembly than will the KJ. If you try to put an AR into a KJ you will find that you cant close the lid. That's why the Divide and Conquer is pretty much felt high or just a little more. With my AR + the extender,  I can cook with several grates extending about 5  inches above the felt.  In this discussion; If one thing is good, it dosen't mean another's  bad, it means maybe both are equally good. With KJ's price coming up and up, it doesn't  really fit the "great grill for a smaller price" niche like they did previously.
