Crack in the firebox

19 posts in this topic

Mine has been cracked worse than that for several years and it's still working fine after hundreds of high and low heat cooks.

I trust that if it fails to hold fuel, Vision will come thru.

When mine cracked it was in the shape of a giant V and it fell inward. I called & sent pictures to Vision on July 3, 2014 & they said they would ship it out on Monday. Not wanting to miss out cooking on the 4th, I used some old furnace cement and placed it in the wedge along with a stainless steel worm screw strap on the outside w/ extra furnace cement.

3 years later the new replacement firebox is taking up needed space in the garage because the broken one is working fine.

Whyd you return it?

I haven't cleaned mine out since I changed lump brands, I just stir it around, try and push the small stuff through the grate and load more in, I notice when I leave it in there I get better control than freshly cleaned, I think it's because the ash drawer gasket (grill side not drawer side) leaks. I figured the small bits of ash and charcoal must be dampening the air a bit, makes me wonder now if mine is cracked lol

There were quite a few issues with it. It came out of the box with soot all over it. i I really don't want to bash a product here. There were several issues with it (I think I got a lemon). The actual reason that I returned it was because of customer support. After almost 2 weeks of not getting things taken care of, I received an email that asked for me to call them. That was the final straw. They had my phone number and that's what made me so mad. I did cook a few good meals on it though.

Imho I am with the vision company response. If the surface crack has no impact on its ability to contain and burn fuel keep cooking. I am no expert
