Years ago, I was on a police conference in Des Moines Iowa.  I remember listening to a conversation on the break with respect to pay and overtime.  A lot of guys were throwing out what they made, and I was shocked at how low they were paid.  Two of my buddies with me, agreed to just stay quiet with respect to what we make.  Eventually some of the group asked and we reluctantly told them.  They were baffled and all said that they would be moving to Canada!

We purchased our first home back in 2001, before the housing market went crazy.  We lived there for 10 years and sold the house for exactly double of what we initially paid.  That allowed us to steel the house we now own.  My buddy built it and the couple split half way through the build, so we ended up getting a smoking divorce special.  This house has since tripled since the market has gone absolutely crazy here in Ontario.  I would not be able to afford to live here now if we were looking to buy.

I worry about how difficult it is going to be for my kids to buy homes as they get older.  I couldn't imagine what that will look like in the future for them.

We got lucky.... right place right time so they say!

Good fortune and many blessings have come your way. From what I've seen of your posts here, you're a generous and deserving soul. I hope those blessings continue to shine on you and your house.
