How do I get my Big Joetisserie to fit?

Recommended Posts

Just received my BJotisserie and it sits in the bottom half fine. When I close the lid there is a 2" gap in the front where the lid doesn't come down far enough. Do I need to loosen the bands and adjust the lid to get it to fit? Will the lid then seal well when I remove the BJoetisserie? Has anyone else had this issue?

Can you include pictures of how you have it sitting in the Grill? Would help to diagnose the problem.

Try pulling it forward & rotate the Jotisseri. Mine has to be lined up in a certain spot for it to close.

Here are some pictures of my issue. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong but I thought the process was supposed to be easy with no adjustments needed. Thickness of the back of the Joetisserie shown also.

I'm not an expert but I'm guessing your lid may already be sitting tighter at the back then the front without the Joetisserie. I noticed the gasket on the base of my Classic showing wear like that's what it's doing. I suspect although I'm getting an air seal all around that the back is compressing and rubbing more than the front and I would think that would show up like what you have when adding a Joetisserie. Sorry I don't have a Joetisserie to prove my theory.

Can we see a shot from the side?  Is the joetissary sitting on something inside the grill?  Seems like the back is just a little too high. Need more info to diagnose...

It looks like you have the ring for the racks in and it not sitting down all the way . You need to remove all the racks and should it sit right down on the felt.

In order for mine to close properly I have to line up the space between the O & the E over the weld mark on the band below. Also pull the JoeTisserie all the way forward.

@HawaiiJoe

Greetings... I want to see if I can be of any assistance in solving this problem.  Meghan from KJ contacted me to see if I had any insight.  I haven't seen this particular problem before.  Is there any 'play' with the joetisserie that will allow it to slide around any or is it a very tight fit inside the base of the grill?

I am trying to determine if the problem is 1) a size issue with the joetisserie (not likely) or 2) a size issue with the Big Joe (more likely.)

Is there a Joe dealer near you?  I would love to know if that Joetisserie would fit on a different grill?  I am not sure what the solution is here.  I have seen some problems posted where the Joetisserie would not physically fit into the big joe.  This one, however, seems to fit but the lid won't close which makes me thing there is a size/tolerance issue.

John ,if you look at at second picture closely you can see the it is not sitting down on the gasket , in the next picture you can see the grill grates , which leads me to belive it is hitting the nubs on the ring that hold the grates .

I just got mine yesterday and I had to take that ring out or it would not sit down all the way.

Good spot... All that stuff should be removed before the joetisserie is put in place... I'd like to see what the fit situation is with all that removed.

John421, I had read your previous posts about having it rotated and aligning the letters to the weld. Unfortunately no luck getting it to close. IMG_1228.JPG

Mewantkj, the grill is empty other than the firebox. Here are some side shots. IMG_1221.JPGIMG_1220.JPG

Bachman5, you have a keen eye for the details, however I had the fire ring out of the grill and the grates were sitting on the firebox. There were a few inches between the bottom of the Joetisserie and the grates. The Joetisserie will sit flat on the felt gasket fine.
