Meteor Shower

Recommended Posts

Tonight is supposed to be a really good meteor shower. Somewhere around 85 sightings per hour at its peak around 4 am. Either way should be able to see some shooting stars all night long. The center of the shower is rising in the NE and should reach overhead early in the morning.

Here at the Bistro the clouds have parted for the time being. Hopefully that will last for the next few hours.

We were at a cottage on a lake in Northern Ontario watching the meteors, satellites and planes the other night.  My wife asked about if you could see the ISS (I have seen it before).  I opened the iPad, looked at ISSTracker.com and determined that it would be coming from the NW horizon to the SE in about three minutes and thirty seconds and pointed out the direction.  A perfect coincidence.  Sure enough, about three minutes later, there it goes at 17,100 mph...

Everyone was impressed. I looked good for a change.

That's kewl. I have an ISS tracking app on my phone. Notifies me when it's going to fly over. It's really accurate. Me and Mrs skreef wave at the astronauts frequently as they fly over.

I'm smack in the center of totality at work for the 21st - like within a mile of absolute centerline. Anyone have any special requests for pictures / video?  I do have a decent camera, although admittedly little knowledge on how to use it properly. Have been thinking about trying to mock up a few shots framing some of the more industrial elements we have in the yard at work with the shot of the eclipse. Need to work on that this next week. Thinking of doing an eclipse cook at work if we can't convince our higher ups in other states that it would be best for the Casper crew to stay home for the day...  Everyone is freaking out here in anticipation of the influx of visitors. All the stores were a nightmare today. Locals are shopping so we can avoid the mayhem that comes with all of the visitors for the event.

Any chance I can rent out your garage or driveway for a few hours???  Joking of course... unless it is possible... I'll be driving in.  Wish me luck.

We are going to have about 78% coverage here in Ontario.  Our Social Committe talked the Mgmt into a 15 minute parking lot viewing party.  Ordered 60 pairs of glasses that arrived last week, will supply icecream treats and now have our fingers crossed for clear skies. Possibly you can use these ideas.
