Vintage (Imperial?) Kamado on KC CL

Recommended Posts

$350 sounds a little steep to me, I bought a similar old one from the '60s last summer.  The guy wanted $200 plus, and I think we settled at $60, and it needed work too.  If the old kamado has the plug-style lower vent (vs the slider vent), be sure to check for cracks in the clay vessel.    Depending on the how hot the unit was used to cook, the clay plugs would expand when hot and inserted, which caused outward pressure from the expansion.  the crack usually appear in the corners of the vent hole.

you can see from the picture where cracks can develop.  this photo was taken after I did the prep work to seal the cracks w/ JB weld.
