TRYING TO ID THIS KAMADO

Recommended Posts

I believe I saw a post a long time ago about 1 that looked like that and the bottom line was as I recall was one of the original ones from Japan, ie: before BGE even started and that they were designed for smoking only and not high temp. Don't know for sure but that's what I seem to remember.

That, my friend is an original and early model Imperial Kamado. That one is in spectacular condition! I've never seen one that nice; it looks unused; has the "feet" and top and cart and it looks like the instructions. It is a fabulous find. Just follow the lighting instructions carefully. There is a manual at nakedwiz (google it) and a lot of information on this site, also.

I love the Kanji brushed onto the lid, body and vent plug. That indicates to me that it was never used after the initial firing and assembly. The Kanji may be a name of the craftsman who formed it, or numbers to identify hand fitted parts. Look it over carefully ; you will find Made In Japan somewhere, and maybe Kinuura Yaki (one of the 2 or 3 original makers of these). usually there is Kanji and sometimes a stylized Mt.Fuji embossed into the top at the handle; I don't see that in these photos, though.

it is an clay fired Japanese kamado ..  ihad one like in the 70,s.... unlike ceramic kamados today i would be careful to keep the heat on this jewel under 400 degrees ... i would hate to hear that it developed a crack... very nice find ..very nice

I have one just like this. I have used it once. It was unused when I bought it. It doesn't have the silver rack, though. I'm thinking of selling it, as like I said, I've used it once! LOL I thought I'd get into smoking, but I haven't- yet at least.

Anyone interested?
