Intro from South TX

Recommended Posts

So the daughters gifted me a Char-Griller Akorn earlier this month for my b-day, where the first thing I did was coat the ash pan with hi-temp paint as per some folks' recommendation to avoid rust and loss of seal. After away for a week, decided to do my first brisket following some recipe on You Tube and was amazed with the results. Overdid the meat a bit as I miscalculated the time, but the end product was amazingly good, being the first time ever smoking a 9 lb brisket. Used the stone, pan with vinegar, beer and water, and smoked it 14 hours. Will keep reporting. And, am glad to be here...

Welcome to the forum, and it sounds like your daughters are looking forward to some good cooking!  And starting out with a brisket?!  You must have some experience behind this smoking adventure.  I think you'll find as you get acquainted with your Akorn that you don't need the water, etc. because it is one big slow cooker oven that seals up and make its own moisture.  We look forward to your pictures.

Welcome to Kamado Guru, that's a great and thoughtful gift from your daughters!  Invest in a instant read thermometer and never look back.

I already did, and am planning to do a Boston Butt for Thanksgiving!
