Kids are grown and gone, we work out of the house and grill everyday. So sitting there and watching lump slowly lite up get old after awhile. Just use it when we work late and need to get dinner done.

Love the cheap Harbor Freight heat gun.  Been using mine to light the Akorn for about 2 1/2 years now.  Used it on a number of other projects heating Kydex and what not.  Still going strong.  Not bad for $8 or $9 on sale.

I've seen a YouTube video of someone using a fan to speed up the lighting his grill. My question is does this also speed up the heat soaking of the grill?

I'd say no

The only way you could speed up the heat soak would be to overshoot your temp initially and then set your vents and allow the ceramic to absorb the extra heat as the fire dies down

Would be pretty hit and miss though
