I'm going to try to get some pictures and post a proper review but my first impressions of this grill are very positive.  The packing, directions, fit and finish etc. are much better than I expected.  I don't know if there is a difference between buying at wally world and costco, mine came from costco, but mine is very well put together.

There probably some quality control issues for me to receive two poor Pit Bosses.  However it was enough for me to move on and not look back.  YMMV

Yours were the first run 2016 K22 models with the wood shelves which may not be all that representative of the 2018 K24 at Costco.  The fact that Walmart had 2016 K22’s to sell you in 2018 also calls into question the history of those particular grills.

I assume my K22 from Walmart, with the bamboo tables, is a 2016 model, and I've had no issues whatsoever. Loving it!

My K24 is a 2016 (bought in 2016) and has been great as well (other than the wood turning black), as were most of them, but the QC does seem to have gotten better.

I bought mine this summer. The only problem I've had have been relatively simple fixes. Upgraded the hinge and plan to switch to a Rutland gasket eventually.

I bought mine at Costco, which means I can return it for up to a year, but I have no plans to do so. I got mine end of season clearance for $600, i couldnt being to replace it with anything even for double that price.

Would love to hear how you upgraded the Pitt Boss 24" hinge. I haven't seen anything on the market.

Seems like the dude bolted but.... I've got a PB24 I bought from Costco back in June 2016. I absolutely love it as an introduction into the world of kamado grills. Awesome value for the money, especially and extra $150 off for clearance.

I've had some similar issues, but it just had to fiddle with the bolts to get everything nice and tight. His lid issues is easily fixable by adjusting some screws and bolts in the back! And who needs a "lower screen" for sparks?!

Biggest draw back for 2016 are the bamboo sides. Mine were fine in California, but as soon as I moved to the East Coast last year they turned moldy....

Hey , sorry, dont know if anyone will read this or not. Obvs I dont check this forum as often as I should :)

My hinge upgrade involved simple taking it apart and drilling out the hole of the small piece of metal that goes between the two bands. The problem with it - theres three holes. Two of them are slightly larger than the third one, and the bolts used were sized for the smallest hole. This would essentially at least on mine let the unit 'wobble' when you lifted it up and down.
So I took the hinge apart and drilled the smaller hole out to be the same size as the larger two holes. Then went to a hardware store and bought hardware that was exact size of the drilled out hole.

The end result is the hinge bolts dont work their way out anymore and things line up better, once you get them lined up. I still plan on switching the lid gasket to either rutland or might try to use the kamado joe gasket.  Hope that helps.

I've had my K24 Pit Boss from Costco since April 2016.

After the first few cooks I developed  a small crack starting at front vent.

Danson's were great and sent me an entirely new outer shell with hardware.

With regards to fit and finish I think any product with multiple fastener points could always use some minor adjustments.

I perform cooks all year round in a variety temperatures and I have no complaints with the quality of workmanship in this grill.

Too improve seal throughout my grill I've added Felt to top vent and front sliding intake vent.

I also performed an adjustment on my lid to ensure a flush fit.

Adjusting lid

The easiest method to see if the lid is actually warped or to ensure proper fitment is to perform the following:

  1. Remove top plate or loosen screws from lid safety closure pin at front of Kamado
  2. Loosen bands on top and bottom of outer shell.
  3. Ensure lid moves freely within bands
  4. Retighten bands
  5. Open lid, place paper between seals and close lid
  6. Repeat step 5 with paper located in different locations around sealing surface
  7. If gap still exists then most likely you have a warped lid,
if paper is tight all around then you realigned lid.
  8. Reinstall/retighten hardware on lid safety closure Pin
  9. Repeat step 5 with paper located in different locations
  10. If gap exists then safety closure pin needs adjustment.

hope this helps

NOTE: if you feel confident in doing so, I recommend removing tension springs to perform this alignment check
