Grill Dome shell repair?

Recommended Posts

The gasket surface on my Grill Dome has spalled.   The depth of the spall is 3/8" to 1/2" deep.

I contacted Grill Dome   They recommended repairing it with J B Weld.   I am looking for other alternatives.   (BTW,  they say this is not covered by their warranty.)

Has anyone here repaired a similar problem and if so, what did you use.

Thx,

Alan

YMMV but Refractory cement or fire cement may be a good way of building back up the edges if you look in the DIY forum i did something very similar with a kamado I made in a keg. See here

this is where I rebuilt the edges and repaired mine I hope this helps

Coming back to this in case it is valuable for others later.

I ultimately repaired the grill per Grill Dome's recommendation using JB Weld after looking at other alternatives.  I used some painter's tape and cardboard to build a ledge and cast the repair.  I let it cure a couple of days, re-gasketed top and bottom with Rutland gaskets, and eventually brought it up low and slow to cure both the repair and the new gaskets.

This particular grill is at our camp so it doesn't see a lot of duty but it has been used a dozen times since the repair and seems to be holding its own.
