K7 Accessories ?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is a great forum!

I have  recently acquired an old K7. I have done a few simple cooks on it in the past couple weeks using a pizza stone and a few bricks as a makeshift heat deflector, which works fine however I would prefer a commercially made product. I would like to see options for accessories that would fit the K7 and am not having much luck scouring the internet. I borrowed a place setter for a large Green Egg and it is a little small, and I'm not sure if the XL Green Egg place setter would be too large. The top of my fire bowl is 20" in diameter and the grate diameter is 22".

Is there a commercially made Kamado on the market that has a line of parts that would fit my K7? Do you think the Rocket parts would work?  Pictures of foil wrapped pizza stone and large BGE place setter below.

Seems like there should be a K7 support group.  HA!

Give this outfit a try...

They bought out Richard Johnson's business several years ago. RJ was the original owner and

manufacturer of these Kamados. What you need is a lower bracket for a K7 and a Heat Deflector.

If they can't help you, you will have to have a lower bracket made - basically two SS rods welded

into an X formation that hangs from the lip of the K a few inches under under your main grate.

The deflector sits on the X frame. A round ceramic disc from a kiln shop should work as a deflector.

Hope that description makes sense. If not, please post back.

Nice looking K7 by the way.

Thanks!

I have seen all the accessories at galaxy, but since they didn't list prices or have an "add to cart" type feature I let it go. I will email them for more info. I also want the upper cooking rack in addition to the deflector.

Kiln shop you say? That is a great idea!

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking Kamado and it appears to be in excellent shape. If Galaxy can't or

wont help, give this outfit a try. I purchased a small basket for my K1 and it works great. You'll need to take

a few measurements and maybe give them a call but I'm sure they can help you.

RE galaxy, kamado, Richard Johnson

FYI https://www.kamadoguru.com/topic/25850-you-can-still-buy-an-rj-kamado/page/2/#comments

does anyone know the real story? who bought the business? does it matter? who makes the closest to the real thing? who makes a quality reproduction?

I get it, $4,000 is more than most people can justify spending on a grill. Those blue tile RJ style Kamados are beautiful, I'd love one. But purchasing any of those $1,500   models seems risky. Meanwhile the Vision, KJ, BGE seem to do pretty much the same thing for less money, maintenance and after the sale support.

A good used RJ style would be a great find.

Here's a recent price quote I got from Bruce at Galaxy Outdoors.  While the price of the cover seems rather high, the 2nd level grate is a little high, the others seem in line with other manufacturers.  Bruce assures me these are the right parts for my K7.  I got this quote in early December.

  1. Rod Firebox $295
  2. Pizza Stone$49
  3. Bracket for Stone$125
  4. No Shelf Cover$295
  5. 2nd Level Cooking Grate$195
  6. Gasket & Adhesive 3 part that is:  damper, lid & door is $75
