First Cook on Santa Maria Grill

Did you lay the wood splits on top of lit briquettes?

About how long did it take the splits to burn down to cooking coals?

Mine has shipped.  Yay!

Congrats and yes I did put the splits on top of lit coals and I started cooking way before the splits burn down to coals! Adjust the grate high up that just the tips of the flames touched the food.

Great Cook! Looks like you have a good handle on Santa Maria grilling. I'll bet you had fun too.

It was fun and I was surprised on how fast the chicken cooked 5lb yardbird in 1hr. Now on getting a handle on it I would say not yet!

Great looking chicken. I bet it tasted awesome.

I have two chicken halves rubbed down in the freezer I want to do them on the Nuke Delta grill but it literally hasn't rained in two months at my house. The grass is dry and brown and crackly. I'm a little paranoid about it and I don't usually worry about it. It is the only grill I would ever worry about.
