Fogo Marabu - Ohhhh Nooooooo

Recommended Posts

Edit: I do not see how to delete a thread, those paying more attention than me knew this at the end of the "20% off thread". Old news but new to me and I am gutted.

I really wish they had sent out a "going away" notice. I have a shed full, but I would have purchased a pallet.

If anyone on this site is interested, I might seriously try to buy (and happily split) a ton. We have a small business and have already learned a bit about odd geography import/export and I may be up for the challenge.

It seems to be available from a company called Woerner Farms that has various locations in the Gulf Coast area.

Pricing is similar to what Fogo was selling it at when it wasn't offered on sale.  Also a place to start if looking to get a large amount, as maybe they could cut a better deal when shipping a pallet or more.

Digging for some info I found this:

Quote

"Foley, Alabama-based GulfWise Commerce LLC (www.gulfwisecommerce.com), affiliated with Foley, Alabama-based Woerner Companies (2018 revenues exceeded US$40 million; www.woerner.com) reported the delivery in May 2019 to Port Everglades, Florida, of two (2) forty-foot containers (forty (40) metric tons; 88,185 pounds) valued at approximately US$14,000.00 of Marabú charcoal from the Republic of Cuba."

I just finished a bag of Marabu and I'm glad it's gone, won't buy again.

Pros: burns a long time

Cons: hard to start

           sparks bad when starting

take a LONG time to get up to temp

I'll stick with Fogo black bag and KJ Big Block, I do want to try Jealous Devil in the near future.

Thanks so much, at least I can still get my fix! $50 a bag is way better than explaining to my better half why dump trucks are pulling up.

To the other poster, this is likely not ideal for a kamado, it is a huge price beat vs Japanese binchotan for long duration direct cooks.

I still have about 4 bags. Definitely saving them for exclusive in the Konro. I too was bummed about the announcement but I figured it was coming with the new administration.

I totally agree not so great for a normal kamado cook. Works really well for the Konro and it would probably work really well for multiple pizzas using the DoJoe.
