Sergio G 1
Hi guys, I just bought a Fireboard 2, and was wondering where is the best place to position the probe for the pit temp? Thanks Sergio
Daver 8
I think John suggests putting it up on the built in dome thermometer probe. Logic is, things on the grill may affect the the temp if your probe is on the grate. Not 100% sure on this info but I seem to remember that. Other option is use the clip on the grate and put your probe there.
John Setzler 14,822
It would be MUCH easier if these things came with alligator clips instead of grate mounts

Which is another reason I went with a HeaterMeter. https://tvwbb.com/forums/heatermeter-diy-bbq-controller.85/ It uses a K-style pit probe... cheap, available anywhere, industry quality accuracy, and... comes with an alligator clip end too. Tom I am gonna grab some alligator clips at Harbor Freight and see if I can get one fastened to that probe without having to solder it. I currenlty clip mine to the dome thermometer with this method: Making that fit properly requires a grate clip that fits perfectly, which ain't easy to find. This clip came with my iKamand. Jagohaus 0
When looking at other 3 hole clips, make sure the largest hole is 0.25 inches. I measured the dome temperature probe and is approximately 7/32 inches.
