Sak231 0
Hi, Love the fireboard 2, but I can only get 6-7 hours out of a full basket of lump. Does anyone else have this experience?
Vanole 136
- Not with either the Fireboard FBX11 (aka FB 1) or Fireboard 2. - Neither of my Fireboards consume anymore fuel than my Flameboss 200 or old DigiQ DX2 - I know this is not part of the question but if you want a fuel/lump mizer the SMOBOT shines in that arena. I have had over a 37 hr burn in a Primo XL with well over 1/3 of a firebox left when I shut her down.
John Setzler 14,957
I have seen this happen when the top vent is not open enough.

Wow that's counterintuitive; you would think the lump would burn faster with the vent more open. I just got a FireBoard and I'm half way through my first cook and my top vent is barely open, so we'll see what happens.
jtemple 63
I haven't opened my Big Joe since last weekend, when I did a full brisket for about 27 hours with a full load of charcoal and the FireBoard. I'm interested to see how much charcoal I went through.
John Setzler 14,957
@LargeRedJoe yup... if you close the top gent all the way down and fire up a controller, the charcoal will burn up in a hurry, all the heat will exit from the same path as the incoming air, and the top portion of the grill will never get good and hot. And yup....most of my charcoal was gone, about 80% and I started with a fairly full basket. It was also cheap coal so that may have played a role.
jtemple 63
Here's the firebox after running the grill for about 28 hours. Not much left, but it was still holding temp just fine by the time I shut it down.

Oh, around halfway between closed and the first mark on the Kontrol Tower, maybe a little less than that. LargeRedJoe

I can't even dream of a 12, 16, 27 cook. Best I've ever seen was 8 and that was stretching it. I'm missing something.

adm 465
Here's a 13.5 hour overnight cook on my Monolith. Fireboard 2, with their blower - max fan speed was 25%, top vent was damn near closed - maybe an eight of an inch open. And here's what the charcoal basket looked like once the meat was taken out:
LargeRedJoe 1,639
Yeah, i’m blaming the cheap grocery store charcoal. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. jtemple
