KJ Charcoal Quality

Recommended Posts

I have been a huge fan of KJs charcoal in the past. It always had nice large pieces and seemed to burn forever. However the last 5 or 6 bags I got were noticeably lower quality, small pieces and didn’t burn as long. I also noticed the packaging was different and it seemed to spark when lighting, which never happened in the past. Has anyone else noticed a decline in their quality? Time to switch brands?

They seemed to change their sourcing during early COVID and the bags with different packaging were poor quality. From what I've seen they are mostly back to the old packaging with quality lump. There was plenty of the better stuff at my local Lowes on a recent visit.

I started with Jeaous Devil lump and wet to KJ charcoal.

There were no chunks...largest piece was 2 golf ball sized.  Burns quickly and not as hot as the JD.

I decided to purchase another bag of Jealous Devil.  I’m going to finish off the other half of my bag of KJ charcoal as a ‘filler’.

I’m going to stick with JD lump as my fuel source!
