Hi All,
Firstly, not sure this is the right place but given it's about two brands, it didn't make sense to post in either the Kamado Joe or Pit Boss sections.
I know there have been similar discussions before but not at this price point as far as I can see. Until this morning, I had pretty much decided to go with the Louisiana Grill (price and size) but then I noticed a further 10% discount on the KJs.
Usage - Direct (replacing a weber 57cm kettle) and low and slow cooking
In short, is it worth me spending the extra money for a KJ and why?
1. Louisiana Grills 24" (Costco UK) + Accessories - £738.89
2. Kamado Joe KJ23RH Classic Joe Grill, 18", Red £809.10
3. Kamado Joe Classic II 18-Inch Freestanding Ceramic Grill - £1,169.10
1. Louisiana Grills 24" (Costco UK) + Accessories - £738.89
Louisiana Grills 24" (60 cm) Ceramic Kamado Charcoal Barbecue - Black (CostCo) £599.89
Nova - Multi-Level Cooking Accessory Grill for 24 Inch £129.00
Nova - Barbecue Grill Remover Tool £10
Pros:
- Largest (21.5 vs 18 grate)
- Costco (UK) guarantee - Phone confirmed they will collect if it ever fails/I'm unhappy
Cons:
- Made by Auplex
- Harder to find accessories in the UK (although not sure what else I'd need)
2. Kamado Joe KJ23RH Classic Joe Grill, 18", Red £809.10
pros:
- Made by KJ
- KJ customer service
Cons:
- Old design vs the Classic II
3. Kamado Joe Classic II 18-Inch Freestanding Ceramic Grill £1,169.10
pros:
- New design
- Made by KJ
- KJ customer service
Cons:
- Most expensive / probably out of my budget(!)
Thanks for reading and I'll really appreciate all your comments on this.

I’m considering my first kamado purchase. I’ve been reading reviews, warranties, etc. and am seriously considering a Vision grill but I’m wondering if the S series with its lighter slot and dial air controls are a bit too much. The only negatives I’ve really found are around the S series struggles to hold low temperatures. Would it be better to just go with the (cheaper) B series from Sam’s Club? Is there any real advantage to stepping up to the S? Does the B series with the ash drawer have the same leak issues?

Hello, I am trying to decide between a new classic Kamado Joe and a demo Big Green Egg. Even though the Akorn is more in my budget, that is about eliminated from my comparison after looking at all 3 in person & reading the reviews. I have looked at about 6 different BGEs in stores and they seem great but I like the Joe more. This is because of how the warranty sounds and the temperature control that I've read about plus the overall quality. Is the warranty the same or better for KJ? Is the ceramic the same, I heard KJ was made of clay.
The price comparison is about the same of the first two when you weigh all the things that are included with the KJ and the fact that you don't have to pay tax on the demo eggs. I don't really want to wait until a BGE event and I think the KJ would be the best option for me. Another question is whether I could use an Kamado under a covered patio (see picture) or if I would need to have some type of a landing pad so that there is open air for smoking. I have read all the other comparison questions I could find on various sites and my mind is almost made up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Darren

Hi All,
Just to let you know, I've been quietly working on a comparison video of the Komodo Kamado 19.5" and the Big Green Egg.
A short 1 minute preview (pictures only) has been posted on YouTube and is available here: http://youtu.be/GEhbYAGjBO8
The full video review will be available later this spring 2014.
Cheers.
