So I’ve got two classics and one jr.

I upgraded one classic to a new style

vent a couple of years ago and the paint flaked off after about six months.

I upgraded the second one to a new style

vent and now six months late the paint is flaking off probably onto my food.

I have also got a sloroller and I have used it … TWICE!!! Well

Under the max temp and paint is flaking off the top disc already.

why do they bother painting it it’s very poor…

Welcome to the Forum

Also, Welcome to KJ ownership...

It seems all black "painted" pieces that are exposed to heat peel at some point

Its happened so regularly its become normalized at this point

Not much you can do about it other than giving the parts a hit with a wire brush between cooks and learning to live with it

KJ does have problems with there coatings on their products. I had the same problem with the Kontrol tower sanded the coating that was peeling. Now i have 2 and every month or so I swap  them and soak the greasy one in bar tenders friend over night then put it away till the one in use gets greasy . Cant help with the slo roller

My slo roller is deformed from the heat. The middle piece warped and now wobbles when assembled. It still does its job but its annoying because it is not well balanced and sometimes tips over into the fire.

I wrap the sloroller plate in foil, mostly because I got tired of cleaning it. I hadn’t considered the flaking issue, as I’ve only had the KJ for a couple of months. Hope the foil helps.

@John Adams do you know if you used the slo roller above 500°? I’ve taken mine up to 375°, but am pretty cautious with it.

2017 KJ Classic II. Lost about half the control tower paint up to now. Not a problem with temp control or ingesting paint (that I know of or if I we did, there was never a problem). There have been many posts about  losing paint or  the remote chance of ingesting the paint.

After first noticing paint flaking off, I made it a habit to inspect the control tower as well as clean it every so often. I suspect that the paint flaking off has been a non issue. No need to get another  part as I think the issue will repeat.

The questions linger as to why only half the paint flaked and why does the issue persist?

Should I remove all the paint?
