A.O.
So I just ordered and received the cast iron reversible griddle plate for my KJ Classic. The instructions just say to wash, dry, and apply a light coating of vegetable oil. It does not say anything about seasoning the new griddle. Most if not all cast iron I've had says to season but not this.. What have you guys with one done?
SmallBBQr
Give it a good cleaning (you never know what the factory left on the surface) and throw it in the grill to dry very well and heat up a bit. Grease it up to get oil in all the little pores and surface inmperfections. Heat it up some more/season. Then grease it up some more and cook on it! After cooking, scrape it down, grease up it again for next time.
A.O.
That is how I've done cast iron in the past, but but the instructions say to "wash with mild soapy water, dry fully, then a thin coat of oil". Contrary to everything I know about cast iron cook ware.
IMAVGAN
My guess would be that the side facing the coals will burn off the seasoning during each use so seasoning may be useless. I would just oil it after every use to help with rust. TamiP and A.O.
