Beermachine
I used cotton balls soaked in denatured alcohol for years to get my lump started. I bought this heat gun a few months ago and it is hands down the best way I have found to start a fire quickly and get the grill up and running. I usually run it for 2-4 minutes and get a nice pile of red hot coals. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B093QDR594/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 jark87 and TKOBBQ 1
jtemple
I have only ever used a Looftlighter to light mine. Same idea. I haven't had a single problem. My grills are only a few feet away from an electrical outlet. I keep saying I'll get a Grill Gun if that Looflighter quits working. In 2 years, it hasn't. MikeRobinson
I simply use a propane torch to light a chimney starter. (Much easier and more reliable than using newspaper ...)

Thanks for the heads up. Beermachine
mike echo
I have never been a fan of electricity and grilling. I still hate having to “plug” in my pellet grill. I only tolerate my Flame Boss because of its benefits. I am over Amazon. Poor selections, way too high prices. It takes a lot to find something decent, receive it, and not have to return it. The heat gun method works. Go with it.

It’s the primary reason the pellet smoker is the one type I’ve never owned. I still use fire starters, but the heat gun in the original post is intriguing, especially for $20. Beermachine
There is no electricity when grilling. It's not like you sit the heat gun alongside the coals while you grill a steak. It's a quick 2 - 4 minute shot of hot air to simply start a fire quickly and without toxic fire starters.
MikeRobinson
I hit the charcoal in my starter with a torch until I see that it is lit, then wait about fifteen minutes for it to turn into a volcano. Dump it into the firebox, maybe on top of other charcoal, and you're good to go. No "toxic chemicals" involved. Next day, during your after-cook cleanup, gather up the unburned charcoal and put it back into the bag. Then scrub everything down. It's a quick and easy ritual. NVRider
WOW! $20 bucks for what looks like to be a pretty good heat gun. Thanks for the tip. Will finally get one for projects around the shop. Since I already have the JJGeorge Grill Torch Charcoal Starter, going to keep using it, because "everything is better on a stick". jark87 and Beermachine

len440
Nice video. Sadly I know a person or 2 that might take that as a challenge
