John421
'tis the season. BBQ time, Father's Day, 4th of July. Wait till after Labor Day & the prices will drop. But then again you are missing out on good grilling time. I like a deal as well as everyone but all you have to do is ruin one cooking & you will have wished you had spent the $60. After using my Maverick ~30 times my cost is $2.00/cook. Also I have kept my probe wires wrapped with aluminum foil for extra heat protection. releehweoj
Also I have kept my probe wires wrapped with aluminum foil for extra heat protection. that sounds like a great idea - since you didn't mention any problems I guess the foil doesn't mess with the accuracy of the thermometer - correct? No problems with the thermometer accuracy. At the wire end of the probe the foil covers about a 1/4" of the probe & it's put on there as tight as I can get it. The wire portion the foil is wrapped around the wire loosely & varies in width from 1"- 3". The foil helps from getting the wire kinked, having soot & sauce on the wire & adds a level of heat/flare up protection. I've used this set up 30+ times while smoking on my gas grill.
